II International Conference for Artists-Teachers “Modern Art Education of Children and Youth”


II International Conference for Artists-Teachers was held on 9-10 February in Minsk. It is held in Belarus for the second time and continues the tradition of round tables that were held after the International Arts and Graphics Contest “In My Homeland”. This year more than 100 teachers and heads of art schools and studios, lecturers of higher arts education facilities, representatives of the “Art School” magazine and publishing house and experts in the field of culture and art education from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Austria and USA took part in the Conference.


The participants were greeted by Mr. Vladimir Shevtsov, the Head of the organizing committee of the International Arts and Graphics Contest “In My Homeland”, Executive Director of the NGO “Green Cross Belarus” and Mr. Patrick Fenning, the Cultural Attaché of the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Belarus.


REPORTS ON THE MODERN ART EDUCATION WERE MADE BY:

  • International Contest-Exhibition of Children Art “P.I.Chaikovskij – Through Children’s Eyes”, Mr. Aleksandr Sorochkin, chief of the Visual arts department of the Votkinsk Children’s art school, Udmurtija, Russia
  • Biannual Festival on Modelling and Sculpture after K.G.Jasakov, Mr. Aleksandr Sorochkin, chief of the Visual arts department of the Votkinsk Children’s art school, Udmurtija, Russia


During the Conference there opened an exhibition of instructional and final works on the subject “Composition” made by the students of Gunefa Matjushenkova, a teacher at Slutsk children’s art school (Belarus).

Master class “From comic books to illustrating children’s books. Evolution of an artist” was held for the participants of the Conference by Mr. Jon Muth, artist, writer and book illustrator (New York, USA).

A meeting with the jury and an express exhibition of the wining works of the VIth International Art and Graphics Contest “In My Homeland” concluded the Conference.

The Conference provided an opportunity for teachers from different countries to meet, discuss the current situation in the sphere of art education, share the experience and methodological achievements and establish new contacts. Participants of the Conference received album-catalogues of the exhibiting works of the “In My Homeland” contest which will become a great methodological material for schools and studios.
